Using Paper Responsibly

Our printing facility in Eagan, Minnesota, is one of the largest in the U.S., producing more than 48 million books in 2009. For the ninth consecutive year, the manufacturing facility was recognized for its outstanding environmental performance by The Printing Industries of America. The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce has also recognized our leadership in sustainable business practices through its annual Waste Wise Minnesota Award.

Our print products contain an average of 30% recycled material, while our book covers comprise 100% recycled paper. Pigments and sealants are 90% water-based. We use corrugated shipping containers made of 80% recycled material, and we use kraft paper instead of styrofoam for packing. None of our adhesives contain lead or phthalates. Our hot melt adhesives are free of volatile organic compounds (VOC), and our water-based adhesives contain less than 0.4 percent VOC.
