People/Workplace
Because Thomson Reuters is a global provider of information and expertise, our people are the foundation of our business. Creating a workplace where individual talents can flourish is essential to our ability to provide customers with innovative solutions to meet their ever-changing needs.
We are committed to providing Thomson Reuters employees around the world with meaningful opportunities to expand their knowledge and develop their skills. This strengthens our value to customers, while opening new doors of opportunity for our people and our business.
A Culture of Ethics
Creating a culture of ethical business conduct starts with each and every one of us at Thomson Reuters. Our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics applies to all employees, directors and officers, who must acknowledge in writing that they have read, understood and will comply with the principles and policies outlined in the document. This is reinforced through mandatory online training. The Corporate Governance Committee receives an annual report on Code compliance from the General Counsel of Thomson Reuters.
Diversity and Inclusion
As a global organization with customers and employees spanning a multitude of countries, cultures and professions, we view diversity as a valuable business asset. Our commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion is broad, encompassing the following:
- Actively working to bring together employees from diverse backgrounds, genders, cultures, and lifestyles.
- Creating an environment that encourages new ways of thinking and working, where people feel free to challenge the status quo - because this drives innovation.
- Valuing and engaging the contributions and perspectives of every employee - especially those with experience, ideas and work styles different from our own.
We support diversity and inclusion initiatives through a comprehensive, company-wide diversity strategy focused on driving positive change at all levels, from employees and managers to HR professionals and senior leaders.
We have an online portal accessible to all staff which draws together relevant materials, toolkits and learning modules to develop understanding.
Promoting Health & Safety
Ensuring the health and safety of our people around the world is a key Workplace responsibility. We are currently updating our Global Health and Safety Policy to align with the many different regional, legal, regulatory, and cultural requirements inherent in a global business with operations in more than 100 countries around the world.
Some of the most significant health and safety risks are faced by our Reuters News staff. In order to mitigate the risk and protect the safety of our staff, we constantly review our safety provisions to ensure that the hostile environment training, safety equipment provided and other support is of the highest standard. Employees have standing instructions to avoid risks to their or others' personal safety wherever possible and are guided towards a new interactive website and e-learning course on stress and trauma.
We also consider that workplace stress may be a factor when our staff are operating in disturbed zones. As a result, we have in place a robust Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Program making available fully trained counsellors and specialist staff who offer advice and support to our staff as necessary. The service is available to our journalists, photographers, support staff, freelancers, and their family members.
