North Carolina Hospital Emergency Surveillance System (NCHESS)
Following the anthrax outbreak in 2002, CDC and FBI officials needed the ability to determine if any cases of high-risk potential epidemic cases were resident within the state’s hospitals. The NCHESS system uses Clinical Xpert CareFocus as part of a “network of nodes” that connect to a HIPAA-compliant database, ensuring that state health officials can have rapid, centralized access to information about potential cases within hospitals throughout the state.
