Taking Mobile to a Whole New Level

Thomson Reuters Westlaw has announced enhancements to the WestlawNext™ iPad app that further extend the functionality and value of this ground-breaking legal research and workflow tool.

The WestlawNext™ iPad app now includes the ability to save and view documents, including notes and highlights, in offline folders. Researchers can continue their analysis, even when they don't have an Internet connection. When a connection is re-established, work done offline is automatically synchronized with the online application. The ability to have access to legal research even in the absence of a cellular broadband or Wi-Fi connection enables lawyers and other researchers to step up their client service to a whole new level and address client issues anytime, anywhere.

“The WestlawNext™ iPad app gives me access and availability of the resources of WestlawNext no matter where I am,” said Tim Johnson, a principal attorney at Matthews, Lawson & Johnson, P.L.L.C. “I can pick up where I left off on my research sessions at any point in time and really address the issues that my clients are having. Having that access and the ability to take advantage of those spare moments in time while I’m on the go is just a tremendous benefit to the client and to the firm because you can work more efficiently.”

Jeff Richardson of legal blog iPhone J.D. recently wrote, “The WestlawNext™ iPad app is a brilliantly designed and incredibly useful app. The interface is simple enough to be intuitive and to not get in your way, but the app is powerful enough to satisfy all of your legal research needs. In the courtroom, this may be the best way to do quick legal research. In your office or at your home, it is nice to be able to lean back in a chair and run searches or read cases and statutes. If you already subscribe to WestlawNext, you need to download this app. If you don't subscribe, this app provides a strong argument for doing so.”

The WestlawNext™ iPad app extends the power, utility and collaboration capabilities of WestlawNext to the popular, go-anywhere tablet format. “The WestlawNext app leverages the iPad’s ability to help people work effectively anywhere, anytime,” said Mike Dahn, senior vice president, New Initiative Development, Thomson Reuters. “Users can capture thoughts and ideas whenever they occur and integrate them with their legal research. This is another excellent example of how WestlawNext improves workflows, and we look forward to announcing additional improvements to help users be even more efficient when they are conducting legal research, whether on the desktop or while mobile.”

WestlawNext is currently used by more than 30,000 organizations, from small law firms to government agencies, corporate law departments and large law firms, including the majority of Am Law 100 and Am Law 200 firms. In addition, WestlawNext is used in 100% of ABA-accredited law schools.

  • The WestlawNext™ iPad app was recently named “Best Legal Research App” in the National Law Journal’s “Best of Legal Times Survey.”
  • WestlawNext has received numerous industry awards and recognition this year, including “2011 New Product of the Year” by the American Association of Law Libraries, and “Best Online Research Vendor” by the New York Law Journal.
  • WestlawNext also was named the preferred online legal research service in recent third-party independent studies conducted by the American Bar Association and American Lawyer magazine.
