Providing the Tools to Do Justice
As law firms around the world weather current economic conditions, we see more and more examples of the resilience that has made the profession such an important force both in the economy and the fabric of our everyday life. Among the trends is an increase in pro bono work (professional legal services provided for the public good without compensation), initiatives critical to improving the communities where we work and live.
As an organization, West's mission is to help the legal system perform better. Our long-standing partnership with firms to provide resources for pro bono work is one of the ways we bring that mission to life. Last year alone, West donated $12 million of Westlaw services in support of pro bono work - a number we hope to increase significantly this year.
We also are expanding our reach: Thomson Reuters is engaged in global pro bono outreach through TrustLaw, a new program from the Thomson Reuters Foundation that will provide information, resources, legal news and support materials for legal professionals around the world involved in pro bono work.
The Do Justice initiative provides access to West resources to support pro bono work. Over time, we plan to share the real human stories behind our customers’ work to illustrate our collective commitment to equal justice and equal access. Intelligent information. The knowledge to act.
