Thomson Reuters Extel and UKSIF 2012 Socially Responsible Investing & Sustainability Survey Results
London, Thomson Reuters and the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association (UKSIF) announced the results of the 10th annual Thomson Reuters Extel/UKSIF Socially Responsible Investing & Sustainability Survey at an event held at the Thomson Reuters Building in Canary Wharf, London.
The 2012 Survey represents the views of over 500 investment professionals from 27 countries, making it the most extensive assessment of socially responsible investing (SRI) in the European investment community. Voting was conducted from 19 March to 04 May 2012. It reflects a contribution from 228 buy-side firms and 29 brokerage firms/research houses.
Key highlights from the 2012 Thomson Reuters Extel/UKSIF Survey include:
- Growing uptake of the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) has now reached the stage where real action, rather than ‘box-ticking’ is required

“These 10th annual SRI & sustainability survey awards mark a key milestone in the development of pan-European sustainability analysis,” said Penny Shepherd MBE, chief executive, UKSIF. “Over the last decade this has become an established investment research offering and these awards have played a key role in recognising and rewarding leading practice by sell-side brokers, buy-side analysts and corporate investor relations. This year’s awards demonstrate the continued appetite for this research product.”
“The continued very strong participation in the 2012 study and the record number of individuals nominated reflect how SRI and sustainability issues are rising up the agenda for the buy-side,” commented Steve Kelly, managing director of Extel at Thomson Reuters. “We now see a long-term secular trend in asset managers’ use of sustainability analysis in their stock assessments, as companies become keener to engage in SRI dialogue with their investors.”
