Corum Health Services enhances pharmacy dispensing solutions with advanced integrated drug interaction screening from Thomson Healthcare
Corum Health Services, a leading developer of pharmacy software solutions used
by more than 2,300 Australian pharmacies, and Thomson Healthcare, the leading
provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of
healthcare, announced an agreement to provide a safer dispensing system for
Australian community pharmacies.
From July 2007, Corum Health will integrate Thomson Healthcare’s Micromedex
Medication Advisory Screening (MAS) Drug-Drug, Drug-Condition and Drug-Allergy
Interactions modules into its Pharmasol LOTS software (Amfac Windows Dispense
and Dispense 3 customers have been benefiting from the MAS module for a number
of years). Now LOTS customers can also rely on a first class clinical support
system.

data in dispensing software for some time. It is a substantial component of the
Quality Use of Medicines program, a central objective of Australia’s National

the best clinical decisions for their patients.”
The Thomson Healthcare Micromedex MAS Interactions modules enhance patient
safety by performing medication screening and proactively alerting pharmacists
to potential drug, condition and allergy interactions at the time of
dispensing. All adverse effects are clearly documented, and detailed summaries
of the primary clinical literature and a bibliography of literature references
are provided.
According to Ken Chee, Director, Asia Pacific, Thomson Healthcare, deploying
MAS within Corum's dispensing solutions supports the critical function of
community pharmacists in Australia - that of protecting their customers by
monitoring for drug interactions and other medication-related complications.
