WestlawNext iPad App Adds West km Capabilities
iPad users can now bring their organization’s best thinking with them wherever they go
Eagan, Minn., March 28, 2012 –Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, announced the addition of West km capabilities to the latest version of the WestlawNext iPad appTM. The app extends the power of WestlawNext, the award-winning legal research system, for customers in small law firms, government agencies, corporate law departments and large law firms.
Users of the WestlawNext iPad app can now easily and securely access the functionalities of West km, the premier knowledge management product specifically designed for the legal profession. West km’s powerful indexing and search capabilities enables users to uncover firm-authored documents and apply the best thinking and experience to a matter, both from the firm’s existing work product and from their legal research session on WestlawNext.
West km also identifies and adds citations, and then links to KeyCite®, which instantly verifies whether a statute, administrative decision or regulation is still good law. A user who pulls up prior work product is able to find out immediately if any relevant laws have changed – a tremendous time-saver. Now all of the valuable features that come with West km are available to legal professionals whether they’re in court, waiting to catch a flight, working from home or anywhere else a secure virtual private network (VPN) or internal network access is available.
“There is an expectation for efficiency in this economic climate and technology can differentiate client service,” says Thom Wisinski, chief knowledge officer, Haynes and Boone, LLP. “Clients don’t want to pay for reinventing the wheel and this innovation provides the ability to be more responsive. West km integration via the WestlawNext iPad app provides enhanced efficiency for the lawyer, decreasing time spent looking for an answer that has already been addressed and allowing the client to receive the answer accurately and quickly – increasingly now because attorneys of all ages are favoring iPads vs. laptops.”
This latest WestlawNext iPad app upgrade was created in direct response to the feedback of customers, who expressed a need to access their own work product while on the go. “The WestlawNext iPad app is a perfect example of how Thomson Reuters continues to deliver on our promise to help our customers do more than just legal research,” said Dinyar Mehta, director of New Product Development at Thomson Reuters. “With this new enhancement, customers can now retrieve their own work product anytime they want, providing a huge efficiency advantage, and as more and more of that workflow takes place in a mobile environment, being able to access West km through the iPad is an absolute necessity.”
To access the features of West km from the WestlawNext iPad app, users will need subscriptions to both WestlawNext and West km, version 2.5 of the WestlawNext iPad app and either a VPN or internal network connection.
The WestlawNext iPad app was recently named “Best Legal Research App” in the National Law Journal’s “Best of Legal Times Survey.”
