Reuters IFR Awards Dinner Raises Over £600,000 For Save The Children
LONDON – Reuters International Financing Review (IFR) last night raised more than £600,000 for Save the Children, an international organisation providing relief to some of the world’s most vulnerable children, at its 14th annual awards dinner. Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, President of Save the Children, attended to present JP Morgan with the coveted “Bank of the Year Award” for 2008.
During the Awards Dinner, attending investment banks pledged money for Save the Children via an interactive charity bidding board. JP Morgan topped the bidding, bringing the total to more than £685,000.
“Save the Children is very proud of its longstanding relationship with IFR which has spanned over 14 years and raised more than £16.1 million, said Jasmine Whitbread, Chief Executive of Save the Children. “Last night’s IFR Awards Dinner raised way more than we could have imagined in light of the current economic climate. This will make a huge impact for the world’s most vulnerable children.”
The Dinner, held in the Great Room at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, and attended by almost 1,000 senior investment bankers, was organised by Reuters IFR, the authoritative source of capital markets intelligence. The IFR awards are recognised as the key awards ceremony for global financiers.
“We are absolutely delighted that, despite a difficult 2008, the investment banking industry continues to support the tremendous work carried out by Save the Children,” said Keith Mullin, Editor-in-Chief, IFR. “The funds raised last night will finance vital projects and provide essential relief to some of the world's most vulnerable children.”

About IFR
International Financing Review is the world’s leading provider of international capital markets news and analysis. Published weekly through International Financing Review and on ifrmagazine.com, and in real time through ifrmarkets.com and on Reuters, Bloomberg and TradeWeb, IFR provides in-depth coverage and analysis of all international bond, syndicated loan, equity and convertible issues, as well as developments in leveraged finance, emerging markets interest-rate and credit derivatives. It is read by all major banks, brokers, investors and borrowers. IFR was launched in 1974, as international capital markets activity first showed signs of growth towards a global industry.
The IFR Awards are selected by IFR's expert capital markets journalists. Starting in October, the journalists start an exhausting round of interviews with hundreds of market participants. These meetings give an opportunity for capital market professionals to stake their claim to individual awards and to give their views on the performance of their peers. They also give the reporters the chance to gauge the market’s thoughts on the most important transactions of the year. In addition, the IFR team takes soundings from treasurers and investors before deciding on a shortlist in each award category. The final decision is then made by the senior IFR editorial team.
