Thomson Reuters Experts to Speak at IPT Annual Conference

Providing Insight into Tax Laws and Best Practices for Property Tax Departments

Experts from the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters will provide information on effective property tax tactics at the 2009 IPT Annual Conference. The conference is hosted by the Institute for Professionals in Taxation and will be held in San Francisco from July 19 - 22.

“Obtaining the most advantageous tax position and getting the most efficient use of limited staff is more important than ever in the current economic climate,” said Joe Mulcahy, senior vice president of ONESOURCE Property Tax for Thomson Reuters. “Our property tax experts will discuss best practices for assessment value reductions, personal property, intangibles, and department operations to help tax professionals save time, decrease costs, and reduce compliance risk.”

Lihsuan Chou will describe the statutes and rules pertaining to the local assessment appeals process, during her presentation on What You Should Know About California Property Tax Laws and How to Apply Them to Win Assessment Value Reductions in 2009. She will also provide tactics for appeal preparation and negotiation processes.

Todd Jones will discuss the recognition, identification, and valuation of intangible property in a real estate intensive going-concern, during his presentation on The Effect of Personal Property / Intangibles on Real Estate Valuation.

Brad Gorski will moderate the Property Tax Department Organization session. The presentation and audience discussion will provide insight into improving process efficiency and managing limited resources.

Chou is senior manager for ONESOURCE Property Tax at Thomson Reuters. She has 24 years of property taxation experience including appraisal analysis, assessment appeals, and real and personal property valuation. Chou is licensed and certified as a General Real Estate Appraiser and Property Tax Appraiser for California. Chou is a certified member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation and also a member of the Appraisal Institute and Broadband Tax Institute.

Jones is senior manager for ONESOURCE Property Tax at Thomson Reuters. He has more than 20 years of property taxation experience, providing counseling, valuation, appraisal review, marketability analysis, as well as expert testimony and litigation support. Jones is also an adjunct professor for the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida. He is an executive committee member of the University of Florida Real Estate Advisory Board and president of the Florida Association of Property Tax Professionals.

Gorski is senior executive account manager for ONESOURCE Property Tax at Thomson Reuters, and is currently responsible for business development. He has 20 years of property taxation experience including appraisal, property tax consulting, and compliance services. He has expertise with functional and economic obsolescence studies, market valuation, asset reclassification, pollution control studies, and intangible and soft cost studies. Gorski is also an instructor for the Intermediate Personal Property Tax School. He is a certified appraiser for Georgia and is a certified member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation.
