Thomson PORTIA Offers Operational and Technical Outsourcing Services For Management and Support of Middle to Back Office
New York, NY
Thomson Financial, an operating unit of The Thomson Corporation (TSX: TOC,
NYSE: TOC) and a leading provider of information, news and technology
solutions to the worldwide financial community, today announced that
Thomson PORTIA, the industry’s most powerful portfolio accounting system,
will now offer a three tiered suite of operational and technical
outsourcing services. Thomson PORTIA Outsourced Services will provide asset
managers with day-to-day system management and support of middle- to
back-office functions. Clients will have maximum flexibility and
configurability via a function by function menu of hosted and outsourced
services options that will include Data Management, Facilities Management,
and Operational Management.
Thomson PORTIA Database Administration Services (DBA Services) provides
clients with flexibility and control - Thomson remotely manages and
supports the technical aspects of the client’s PORTIA database, while the
client owns and houses the hardware, and maintains ultimate control over
their environment. Clients may choose between two levels of PORTIA DBA
Services - either Standard, for clients who want Thomson to own the full
database administration function, or Back-up, for clients who wish to
utilize Thomson for backup and recovery.
Thomson PORTIA Facilities Management (FM) is a complete technical
outsourcing option for clients who do not want to own and manage the
technical environment. It provides clients with 24x7 monitoring of servers
and networks with access to data and applications within a Thomson Data
Center. Back-up and disaster recovery are part of this complete service.
Implementation includes establishing the client server environment at TF
Data Centers, setting up client specific access rights, and establishing
secure, remote connectivity.
The Thomson PORTIA Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) combines the
technical features of FM with a customized approach to operational
outsourcing. Clients can outsource specific functions choosing from a menu
of optional services such as Custodial Reconciliation, Performance
Measurement, Client and Management Reporting, Data Management and Advanced
Batch Management.
“At TimesSquare Capital Management, we know that strong client
relationships depend on meeting our performance objectives and providing a
service level that institutional investors expect,” said Fred Kramer,
Senior Vice President, Operations and Systems, TimesSquare Capital
Management. “Having Thomson handle these day-by-day back-office functions,
including daily reconciliations, pricing and corporate actions, enables us
to concentrate on adding additional services and value for the investment
team and our clients,” said Kramer.
“PORTIA Outsourced Services will provide asset managers with maximum
freedom from day-to-day technical and operational support, so they are able
to focus on their core mission – managing assets and providing value to
customers,” said Christy Bremner, Global Managing Director, Thomson
Financial. “What’s more, outsourcing dramatically reduces overhead by
leveraging Thomson Financial’s expertise and scale to minimize total cost
and operational risk,” said Bremner.
