Thomson Reuters Experts to Speak at CBI Congress
Providing Insight into Provision Software and Transfer Pricing
Tax professionals and finance executives from life science industries face unique challenges in tax law compliance. Experts from the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters will provide information on FIN 48 reporting software and an update on transfer pricing regulations at the Pharma/Biotech Tax and Transfer Pricing Congress. The congress is hosted by The Center for Business Intelligence and will be held in Philadelphia, Pa., from Nov. 17-18.
“Understanding the intricacies of the IRS transfer pricing service regulations as they relate to pharmaceutical companies can be daunting,” said Michael DeSimone, a senior manager of International Tax for CrossBorder within the Tax & Accounting business. “And keeping up with changes occurring since the 2006 IRS regulation, as well as outcomes from recent court cases, can create even more of a compliance burden.”
DeSimone will explain the reasons for the service regulations, their ramifications to companies, potential conflicts with foreign tax authorities, and more, during his presentation on New Service Regulations and Their Implications for Effective IP Management.
“With the FAS 109 requirement for increased transparency in financial reporting, tax professionals are looking for ways to save time and manage risk,” said Brian Tully, vice president of Operations for TaxStream within the Tax & Accounting business. “Advanced software technology streamlines dataflow, provides audit controls, and automates report generation for large multi-national pharmaceutical companies.”
Tully will discuss integration of FAS 109, FIN 48, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements with technology; automation of tax process; collection of remote data; and more, during his presentation on Optimize Your Tax Process – Time Savings and Risk Management through Tax Technology. During this session, Hugh LaLonde, director of Tax at Bristol-Myers Squibb, will share his company’s experience using Thomson Reuters tax technology to optimize their provision process.
DeSimone has nearly 30 years of tax experience with Fortune 500 companies and is an attorney licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey. He has been responsible for a broad range of tax strategies and has successfully defended these strategies before the IRS and various foreign tax authorities.
Tully manages tax accounting and reporting on provision software platforms. He joined Thomson Reuters in 2008 with the acquisition of TaxStream, LLC, where he managed accounting implementations and support dating back to 2002. Prior to TaxStream, Tully held positions at Lehman Brothers and Gleacher Natwest.
