Thomson Reuters Launches TaxWatch University

New Multi-level Training Program for Tax Professionals

The Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters recently launched TaxWatch University to the market. This tax staff training program combines AuditWatch’s progressive multi-level curriculum design from the popular AuditWatch University (for new-hires, seasoned leaders, and those in-between) with the in-depth, practical knowledge of taxation from PPC experts.

“We’re excited to bring TaxWatch University staff training to tax and accounting professionals,” said Ken Koskay, senior vice president and general manager of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) at the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters. “Our PPC and AuditWatch experts developed five levels of training to help tax professionals obtain critical knowledge and skills required to be successful in their profession and add value to their firms’ business. More than ever, there is a continuing need for tax professionals to stay current while becoming more efficient in their work, which is the primary reason we spent thousands of hours developing training specific to each staff level of the firm.”

The new TaxWatch University includes the following programs:

  • Basic Taxes Level 1 — prepares new or recent hires for the types of returns and projects typically assigned to these employees. Primary focus is on the completion of individual returns. In addition, the program covers basic corporate taxation, enabling those personnel to assist with these returns.
  • Intermediate Taxes Level 2 – is designed for a second-year tax professional moving into more complex individual tax returns and more heavily into corporate tax returns. Primary focus is on corporate returns; however, the program includes discussion of more complex and less frequently encountered individual taxation issues.
  • Intermediate Taxes Level 3 – caters to the professional who is ready for more complex tax projects. Primary focus is on partnerships, estates and trusts, and LLCs, as well as sessions on additional advanced individual and corporate tax items.
  • Advanced Taxes Level 4 – is designed to advance a tax professional into more complex taxation issues. The program includes sessions on tax planning and saving strategies related to both individuals and corporations. It also continues to provide training on technical tax issues mainly related to pass-through entities and more advanced corporate and individual issues.
  • Advanced Taxes Level 5 – caters to seasoned tax professionals seeking professional development in areas beyond the technical arena. Primary focus is on business skills such as practice development, leadership and management, and communication. It also contains some timely technical tax topics and updates.
  • Also available, though not part of the TaxWatch multi-level program, is a new course for auditors – Tax Training for Auditors. It provides individuals with audit-related responsibilities the information necessary to assist with basic tax services and preparation. Course topics include major differences between book and tax accounting as well as various technical tax topics.

TaxWatch University seminars are available to accounting and tax firms in major U.S. cities as public seminars, in-house at a firm’s location, or through customized delivery options. All the TaxWatch Univeristy seminars qualify for CPE credit upon successful completion of the program.
