Thomson Reuters Unclaimed Property Specialist to Speak at NACM’s 2009 Credit Congress

Providing Insight to Credit and Finance Practitioners Regarding Management of U.S. Unclaimed Property

An experienced unclaimed property specialist from the Tax & Accounting business of Thomson Reuters will provide a two hour workshop on unclaimed property compliance during the 2009 Credit Congress. The conference is hosted by the National Association of Credit Managers (NACM) and will be held in Orlando, Fla., June 14-17.

“With the risk of penalties, interest, and civil/criminal prosecution, credit and finance professionals need to carefully plan and manage unclaimed property compliance,” said Valerie Jundt, director of Unclaimed Property for the ONESOURCE Property Tax brand at Thomson Reuters. “Compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), states’ statutes, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) are just a few of the challenges to be dealt with in today’s financial environment.”

During her presentation on Unclaimed Property Compliance – How to Stay Afloat during Turbulent Times, Jundt will discuss topics such as: GAAP, SOX, and state requirements; Uniform Unclaimed Property Acts; U.S. Supreme Court Rulings; property holder obligations and rights; reportable property; internal controls; audits; amnesty vs. voluntary disclosure; and more.

Valerie M. Jundt, director of Unclaimed Property, has 25 years of diverse unclaimed property experience. She works with clients and states in resolving compliance issues arising from state audits, voluntary compliance initiatives, enforcement actions and law changes. Jundt also assists in developing strategies for unclaimed property audit defense and best practices relating to unclaimed property policies and procedures. She is a former state unclaimed property administrator and the former executive director for the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA). Jundt is a co-author of Unclaimed Property Treatise and is a frequent speaker. She is first vice president of the Unclaimed Property Professional’s Organization (UPPO) and a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
