Thomson Healthcare Launches NeoFax Neonatal Drug Dosing Solution
NeoFax expedites delivery of neonatal drug dosing and parenteral nutrition information to physicians, nurses and pharmacists to prevent adverse drug events
Greenwood Village, Colo.Thomson Healthcare, part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) and
the leading provider of healthcare decision support solutions that improve
clinical and business performance outcomes, today announced that it will
be the provider of NeoFax content and tools.
Medication errors injure more than 1.5 million people each year according to a
recent study by the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. Neonatal
drug dosing and parenteral nutrition ordering are among the most complex and
error-prone in hospital care.
"Infants are immeasurably more fragile than adults, increasing their
susceptibility to harm from even minor medication errors," said Jay Katzen,
senior vice president, marketing and business development, for Thomson
Healthcare. "Providing NeoFax content and tools helps to ensure all members of
the care team have the information they need to make the right decisions, every
time."
NeoFax from Thomson Healthcare gives clinicians a consistent infant drug and
fluid nutrient dosing resource that contains alerts, an interaction checker and
a patient-specific dosing calculator. The solution contains more than 185
substances as well as a set of clinical decision support modules for patient
specific dosing and parenteral nutrition order entry for neonates, and is
available in print, PDA and as a web-based application for use in hospital
neonatal intensive care units. Before a drug is dispensed, clinicians using
NeoFax can be confident that they not only have the right medication, but the
correct dosage based on the specific needs of the infant being treated.
NeoFax, recently acquired by The Thomson Corporation, introduced the first
neonatal dosing and nutrition manual in 1987. Since then, NeoFax has provided
clinical reference tools used by physicians, nurses, and pharmacists to
prescribe, calculate dosing, formulate, and administer critical drugs and
parenteral nutrition solutions for infants. NeoFax application is an online
version of the manual which features system wide Intranet functionality with a
convenient, easy-to-use web browser interface that includes a patient-specific
drug dosage calculator.
