In this session we will discuss why the SmartEstimate, in conjunction with the I/B/E/S Consensus Estimate, enhances the stock selection process. Our study will further explore and highlight sector biases in the convergence property and identify reasons.

When SmartEstimates diverge significantly from consensus, you can anticipate earnings surprises with an accuracy rate of 70%. Revenue SmartEstimates are even more predictive of surprises, with a historical accuracy rate of 78%. I/B/E/S Consensus Estimates
Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S Estimates allow you to keep close watch on the predicted performance of corporations from the industry’s leading sell-side analysts. With over 28 measures – both detail and consensus for most items – you get a comprehensive view and easy comparison of companies and industries.
In addition to detailed analyst level estimates, Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S rolls this valuable forecast data to a company level, to form a summary estimates. In the form of mean, median, high, low and revision counts, to name a few, this predictive data gives clients an important view into expected corporate earnings, and complements guidance and reported data to see the whole picture of company performance. Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S summary estimates are presented on an apples-to-apples basis, whereby only estimates on the same accounting basis are included, as well as only estimates reflecting the most recent information. Estimates on different accounting basses or those estimates based upon out-of-date information are excluded from the mean calculation.

Same Store Sales
Reported monthly and quarterly by US retailers, the Thomson Reuters Same Store Sales Index measures year-on-year change in sales at retail locations open for at least one year. Same Store Sales statistics enable analysts and investors to examine underlying growth trends at a retailer, since it excludes store openings and closings.
