Common utilities for Datastream
- Expressions - Create and edit your expressions from within the Datastream desktop or through the Datastream add-ins. All the necessary functionality is provided in one screen: easily select individual functions, mathematical operators, and constants. Once your expression is complete, it can be assigned a mnemonic of your choice for use in your data and chart requests.
- Lists - Create lists to represent series in portfolios, watch-lists, or sets of frequently used economic indicators. Then generate a single report or chart for all items in the list, displaying earnings, dividends, performance, or individual charts and reports.
- User-Created Indices - A long-time favorite, the user-created index functionality allows you to create your own list of constituent equities from the full breadth of Datastream's equity universe, define a start date and a currency, and let the system calculate your index. Indices can be set up on an ad hoc basis or maintained automatically, with new values calculated daily.
- User-Created Time Series - Upload your own data series to use in combination with Datastream-maintained series in charts, or for use with Datastream expression facilities. Create and edit your own time series with the Excel template supplied with the Datastream Add-in, or download an existing series to form the basis for a new series, such as in-house earnings estimates or economic forecasts.
- Equity Searching - Use Datastream screening to search across the entire global equities database. Use up to ten fields such as market value and geographic region to locate and evaluate outstanding performers. Select an index constituent list with any field, include values derived from custom expressions, run the search at a specified date, and find companies which match your criteria for growth or value.
