Our patent translations for filing at patent offices are independently checked word-for-word by our specialists. We can provide translations of applications in a format ready for filing in the US, Europe, Japan and other countries. This can include any certification (translator's declaration, notarization, etc.) which may be required.

When the European (EPO) and World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) issues a decision to grant a patent, translations of the granted text are required for filing and enforcement in the patent offices of the designated states. Japanese-to-English Machine-Assisted Translations

Especially in the case of Japanese language documents, a translation can be very costly.

When you simply want to sift through Japanese documents in English to assess relevance or scan a patent before investing in a certified translation: we have world leading enhanced JP machine-translation (MAT).

Thomson Retuers was an early adopter of MAT technology and over the years has developed a highly sophisticated in-house system with specialist dictionaries and syntax rules subject to constant revision and improvement based on processing 500,000 patents a year.

All output is reviewed by a linguistic and subject specialist to enhance the readability and accuracy of the syntax and vocabulary.

You can receive the full or partial text translations (e.g., claims only) in an MS Word or PDF file; it can be dual column with original text alongside translated text and the text in drawings/captions can be translated.

All Japanese documents can be machine-translated, even PCT (WO) documents and pre-1993 JP patents unexamined or utilities (kokai "A") and examined patents or utilities (kokoku or toroku "B") documents.

The results are post-processed by our technical bi-lingual staff in Japan and the UK and are supplied via email or ftp generally within 5 working days.
