Why choose Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI)?

  • Enhanced patent titles and abstracts.
  • Unique classification and indexing.
  • Flexible search options.
  • Wide choice of delivery platforms.

  • Get comprehensive, unrivalled global coverage. DWPI covers over 41 patent issuing authorities, with coverage of technology going back to 1963. We pull together worldwide patent documents, which relate to the same invention, and provide that information in a concise Patent Family table, representing the global coverage of the invention sought by the Patent Assignee.
  • Search patent information with confidence. We add intellectual value to your patent research — saving searching time and money. Our team of over 350 scientifically-trained editors assesses, classifies, abstracts and codes patent information to ensure that your patent searches locate precisely the information you require, quickly and easily.
  • Quickly identify the patents that are important to you. In DWPI, the original patent titles are re-written to make them more meaningful and easier to understand. This allows companies to quickly identify which patents are important to their work, and so save time and money by making the best use of resources.
  • Overcome language barriers. Our subject experts write English abstract from patent documents issued in more than 30 foreign languages, detailing the claims and disclosures of the inventions and highlighting the main uses and advantages of the technology. This makes it easy to understand inventions from non-English language sources, such as Japanese.
  • See the full history of a patent application. Bibliographic information, provided through DWPI, summarizes the history of the patent application, including details of where the invention was patented, who patented it, and when it was patented.
