Engagement Manager 1 August, 2024 release notes

Engagement Manager Office Client Add-in update to version 24.1

An updated version of the Engagement Manager Office Client Add-in is available. Make sure to download and install the latest version from the
Setup
,
Downloads
page in Engagement Manager. This new add-in is required due to the new product name and for engagement-specific subcodes. The link within the installation wizard is fixed to point at the Visual Studio Tools for Office 2010 installer in the case where that is not installed.

Product names are changing to Engagement Manager and Guided Assurance

AdvanceFlow has been rebranded as Engagement Manager, while Checkpoint Engage is now known as Guided Assurance. Thomson Reuters is taking on a descriptive approach to naming, making it easy to quickly understand what each solution is or does. The name changes won’t impact the quality of service and expertise you trust from Thomson Reuters.
The address for the new Engagement Manager is http://engagementmanager.thomsonreuters.com for the United States and https://uk.engagementmanager.thomsonreuters.com for the United Kingdom. It is recommended that you update your bookmarks to the new page. Make sure
*.thomsonreuters.com
is added to your trusted sites. Ensure the new URL is also added as an allowed site for Notifications, Automatic downloads, and pop-ups and redirects. The https://advanceflow.com forwards to the new address automatically.
As mentioned earlier, it is recommended that you install the latest Office Client Add-ins. You can also uninstall Engagement Manager Link and install Engagement Manager Link instead to see the new product name. If applicable, the conversion applications for Creative Solutions Accounting, CaseWare, and Prosystem FX engagement must be reinstalled from the downloads page.

Engagement-specific tax subcodes

We appreciate all of you who have expressed the need for this feature in our Ideas Incubator. We're excited to improve the application to allow tax subcodes that are engagement-specific. You can now add subcodes to each individual engagement from the
Setup
, then
Tax Codes
screen from the trial balance screen. This allows you to customize the codes and descriptions of the line items as they appear on the tax code report, exports to tax software, and/or formulas in Office documents for each engagement.

Edit PDF documents directly in the software

We now provide the ability to edit PDF documents directly within the web browser, eliminating the requirement of having Adobe Acrobat installed on your staff’s computer. Certain roles in the firm may now be able to perform work without licensing Adobe, saving your team expenditures.
To implement this feature:
  1. Go to the user profile button and choose preferences.
  2. Mark the option to “Edit PDF documents directly in Engagement Manager” on the PDF options tab.
Now when you edit a document (using
Manage Edit
, the
Edit Actions
button, the right-click
Edit
option, or double-clicking), the document will open in a PDF editor in a new browser tab. You can add text annotations, shapes, stamps, comments, fill in PDF forms and more. You can also rotate, add, remove, or reorder pages in the documents. The PDF view mode and PDF preview pane will remain as read-only screens.

The new layout becomes permanent

Since November 2023, the adoption of our updated layout has been optional. This new layout is becoming permanent for all users with this update.
One of the primary goals of this new look is to use screen real estate more efficiently by consolidating the home/Engagements/setup bar up into the title bar and breadcrumb. We also moved the tab component for each area of the engagement into the left navigation, which is collapsible to save more vertical screen space.
We removed the left navigation and management of engagement to make more workspace. You can navigate engagements by selecting engagement name from the breadcrumb to see a tree of all open clients and engagements. The administration and properties features have moved to the bottom of the left navigation to be easier and more intuitive to find instead of a right-click menu. Re-index, closing, and deleting engagements have moved to the home dashboard. You can now close multiple engagements at once.
The new home dashboard helps you check the progress of all engagements by document signoffs, or by Guided Assurance step signoff. You can also check the report release dates and completion dates from the home dashboard. Use the manage columns button on the home dashboard to customize the view.
The new notifications in the upper right corner let you check on the alerts created by notification rules at a glance without losing your place in the engagement. It has new filtering and sorting capabilities. It is much easier to mark them as read or delete multiple notifications at once now. Look for the blue dot on the bell icon to know there are new notifications.
The benefits and new features of the new layout can be reviewed in these videos:

Client communication issues resolved

  • A confirmation window appears when leaving a request without saving the changes.
  • When entering a duplicate request template, an error message appears that the template is already in use.
  • The buttons at the bottom of the request remain visible when more sub-requests are added.
  • When copying a request template, there is now a message that says the task was successful.
  • Preventing multiple requests from being created accidentally if the Use template button is selected multiple times.
  • The last selected template will be remembered when navigating away from the communications screen and returning.
  • Prevent clicking the save button multiple times after copying a template instead of displaying error messages for the extra clicks.
  • The Create Template button at the top of the screen is visible even when scrolled down on the form.

Other miscellaneous issues resolved

The following miscellaneous issues have been resolved:
  • While installing the Office Client Add-ins, the link in the installer to Visual Studio Tools for Office 2010 is updated.
  • Files dragged and dropped from your local computer that had leading or trailing spaces in the file name no longer cause an indefinite loading circle.
  • The replace option in the right-click menu is no longer available in the List view in the case where there is a section lock on the workpapers section of the engagement.
