Error — AD01/LL AD01 Accept Appropriate Office Address Statement

Scenario

You may get an error message that includes the following text when filing an AD01/LL AD01:
Error message
AcceptAppropriateOfficeAddressStatement

Cause

You haven't marked the
Registered office is an appropriate address
checkbox on the
Company
tab.
From 4 March 2024, companies need to have an ‘appropriate address’ as their registered office at all times and confirm this to Companies House. This requirement was introduced by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.
An 'appropriate address' includes not being a PO Box number. Broadly, the address needs to be an actual address and in the country in which the company was incorporated. It's defined in section 86 of the Companies Act 2006 (inserted by section 28 of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023):
'An address is an “appropriate address” if, in the ordinary course of events—
  • a document addressed to the company, and delivered there by hand or by post, would be expected to come to the attention of a person acting on behalf of the company, and
  • the delivery of documents there is capable of being recorded by the obtaining of an acknowledgement of delivery.'

Solution

  1. Check that you're running Company Secretarial version 24.0:
    1. Go to
      Help
      , then
      About Company Secretarial
      .
    2. If the application is earlier than version 24.0, read our Version 24.0 build 3388 Economic Crime and Transparency Act — Release Bulletin 01/03/2024 and follow the steps there to update it.
  2. When you're running version 24.0, open the company.
  3. On the
    Company
    tab, after the
    Registered office
    box, mark the
Registered office is an appropriate address
    checkbox.
The Company tab is selected and shows 2 sections: Company Details and Addresses. The first box in the Addresses section is Registered office and after that , the Registered office is an appropriate address checkbox is shown marked.
  4. Select
    Save
    .
You can now generate the AD01 / LL ADO1 and file it at Companies House.
