Correct dates on bank reconciliations

You may end up with bank reconciliation dates that don’t span the entire reconciliation period if you unfinalize a previous reconciliation, change the dates, and refinalize it. The following information walks through an example of this situation and how to correct it.
Let's say you have the following bank reconciliations in the list on the
Reconcile Bank Accounts
screen.
  • January 1 - January 31 (Finalized)
  • February 1 - February 28 (Finalized)
  • March 1 - March 1 (Finalized)
  • March 2 - March 31 (Finalized)
  • April 1 - April 30 (Current)
You can't simply change the dates on the March 1 - March 1 reconciliation because the application doesn’t let you have reconciliations with overlapping dates. You'll need to move the dates of the latest reconciliation so you can expand the March 1 - March 1 reconciliation to span the entire month. The following steps walk through how you would correct this based on the example.
  1. On the
    General Information
tab for the reconciliation with a status of "Current", change the dates to May 1 - May 31.
  2. Enter a journal entry or edit the amounts on the
    General Information
tab so you can finalize this reconciliation.
  3. Select
    Finish Later
    .
  4. Unfinalize the March 2 - March 31 reconciliation.
  5. Change the dates on the
    General Information
    tab to April 1 - April 30.
  6. If necessary, enter a journal entry or edit the amounts on the General Information tab so you can finalize this reconciliation.
  7. Select
    Finish Later
    .
  8. Unfinalize the March 1 - March 1 reconciliation.
  9. Change the dates on the
    General Information
    tab to March 1 - March 31.
  10. Finalize the reconciliation.
  11. Delete any journal entries or revert any amounts you changed on the General Information tab so you can finalize the reconciliations up to the latest date.
