Error when deleting reports: Value is in use

Scenario

You may get the following error message when deleting reports in the Report Designer.
Error message
Value is in use.

Cause

This message is displayed when the report you're trying to delete is currently included in 1 or more report profiles.

Solution

Use the following steps to identify which report profiles include the report and remove it from the report.

Identify report profiles with that report

  1. Select
    File
    , then
    Print Reports
    .
  2. Select
    Profiles
    .
  3. Double-click each of the profiles in the list to move it over to the Selected Reports pane.
  4. The Selected Reports pane will display all of the reports that belong to the profile.
  5. Make a note of which Firm Profiles and which Client Profiles contain the report you're trying to delete.

Remove reports from a profile

  1. Select
    Setup
    Firm Information
    Firm Report Profiles
    or
    Setup
    , then
    Report Profiles
    (for client-specific report profiles).
  2. Select the profile in the list, then select
    Edit
    .
  3. Select the ellipsis button in the
    Selections
    field.
  4. Select the report in the Selected Reports pane, then select
    Remove
    .
  5. Select
    OK
    then
    Enter
    to save your changes to the profile.
  6. If prompted, select all of the clients to update the client level report profiles.
  7. Repeat these steps for each report profile that includes the report you're trying to delete.

Delete the report

  1. Select
    File
    , then
    Report Designer
    .
  2. Select the report in the list, right-click it, then select
    Delete
    .
  3. If you get the error message again, repeat the previous steps.

Development is working on showing some kind of report that will list out which profiles the report belongs to when you try to delete it.
