Reasons why this report contains no data

When you preview or print a report, the report might display with the header region and the message
This report contains no data
. Here are some reasons why that is happening.

Rows in the report are incorrectly grouped

  • Any rows that contain only text and no variables don't need to be grouped into a repeating level.
  • Each row that contains a variable from the Chart of Accounts Activity section of the variable tree should be grouped into a repeating level.
  • Adjacent rows that are displaying a total can be grouped into the same repeating level.
  • Adjacent rows that aren't displaying a total need to have empty, hidden rows in between so that each row can repeat separately.

There are hidden rows that aren't empty or blank

Check the hidden rows (those that have a height of 0.00) for variables or incorrect groupings.

There's truly no data to show on the report

  • Make sure the right client is selected.
  • Make sure the correct variables are selected.
    • For example, the [Client.Name] variable will pull the name of the client from the Clients screen, but the [Customer.Name] variable pulls the name from the Customers screen. If you don't have Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable services enabled for the client or you don't have any customers set up, there's nothing for the variable to output.
  • Make sure the client is in the correct posting period (located on the bottom left corner of the application).
  • Make sure the correct date range was selected in the print options.
  • Review the filtering and sorting options selected. If there are too many or incorrect filters chosen, the report might not work as expected.

There's no variables in the Main region

This happens most often with custom reports for footnotes. The information doesn't display because there's only hard-coded text and nothing for the application to calculate. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Variables from CSA Financial Reporter aren't the same as variables for Report Designer. If you copied and pasted from CSA, you'll need to replace the variables with the corresponding ones.
  1. In a new row, insert a variable such as [ChartofAccountsActivity.Core.GLAccountDescription].
  2. Right-click the row number, and select
    Group into Repeating Level
    .
  3. Right-click the row number again and select
    Row Height
    . Enter 0.00 and then select
    OK

Another way to get the report to show information is to insert a variable into a cell and make the text color white.

The client doesn't have the service turned on

If you're previewing or printing a report for a service that isn't enabled for the client, it will return no data. You can review the services enabled for each client on the Clients screen.

Changes were made to the report but it's part of a profile

If ou make changes to a report in Report Designer, and that report is included in an existing Report Profile. you'll need to remove teh report from the profile and re-add it for the changes to take effect.
  1. Go to
    Setup
    ,
    Firm Information
    , and then
    Firm Report Profiles
    .
  2. Remove the report from the profile, and then select
    Enter
    to save the profile.
  3. Edit the profile again and re-add the report. Note that you'll need to make all of your selections for the report again.

Accidental changes were made

You can restore the default on any reports that came with the installation of the application by right-clicking the report and selecting
Restore Default
.
