Piece rate calculation - workaround example

In the
Payroll Items
screen, the
Piece rate
calculation type is available for selection for payroll items, but this calculation type is not currently functional.
You can follow this example to achieve the payroll tracking and reporting benefits of a
Piece rate calculation
type.
Example
Acme Car Wash pays $4 per car that is washed.  Hours worked will also being tracked, though no hourly rate is being paid.
We're paying an employee that washed 164 cars and worked 40 hours in the pay period.
  1. Using the following information, add a pay item to record the number of cars washed.
    • Description:
      Cars Washed
    • Calculation type:
      Hourly rate
    • Default rate:
      $4.00
. (You could also leave this rate at zero and enter a specific amount for each employee.)
    • In the Exclusions section, mark the
      Hours from gross pay presentation
checkbox to exclude the piece work value from the hours on the payroll check.
  2. Add another pay item named to record hours worked.
    • Description:
      Hours Worked
    • Calculation type:
      Hourly rate
    • Default rate:
      $0.00
      .
  3. Make both pay items active for the employee in the
    Payroll Items
    tab of the Employees screen.
  4. Enter a payroll check using the following information.
    • Cars Washed - Regular hours:
      164
    • Hours Worked - Regular hours:
      40
You can use the Wage Register to report the piece work values. Filter down to the piece work payroll item(s) on the
Payroll Items
tab of the report options.
