Unemployment Rate screen

You can use the
Unemployment Rate
screen to change the unemployment rate for the client and to enter rates for other periods. If a state has supplemental rates, they're listed here.
To access the screen, select
Setup
,
Clients
, then the
Payroll Taxes
tab. Go to the State unemployment information section and select ellipsis next to
UI base rate
.

Work in the screen

You can enter the following information on the
Unemployment Rate
screen:
  • Effective date
: Enter the effective date for the unemployment rate. The effective date needs to be the beginning date of a quarter (1/1, 4/1, 7/1, or 10/1) so that earnings-based reports and payroll forms will match check values. The default effective date is the beginning of the year, based on the system date.
  • Base rate
: Enter or modify the base rate for the currently selected period.
  • Supplemental rates
: If the state has supplemental unemployment rates, they show here and vary by state.
  • Surcharge rate
: (Kentucky clients only.) Use this field to enter the Servicer Capacity Upgrade Fund (SCUF) rate. For more information on SCUF, refer to the SCUF web page.
  • Total rate
: This shows the base rate plus any additional rates applicable to this state.
  • Alternate SUTA wage limit
: (Rhode Island clients only.) Mark this checkbox if you want to use the alternate SUTA wage limit (required for the one-quarter of employers that represent the greatest number of users of unemployment insurance benefits).
  • Bond Surcharge
: (Nevada clients only.)  Enter or modify the percentage for the bond surcharge for the currently selected period.
  • Calculate checks at 5.4%
: (Illinois clients only.) This checkbox is available only if the base rate entered is greater than 5.4%. Mark this checkbox to calculate the state unemployment amount on payroll checks at 5.4% rather than the rate entered in the
    Base rate
    field.
  • No wage limit
: (Colorado, Kansas, and Massachusetts clients only.) Mark this checkbox to turn off the SUTA wage limit in the payroll tax calculations for the active client.
  • Delinquent employer
: (Michigan clients only.) Mark this checkbox if the client is delinquent in the payment of unemployment contributions, penalties, or interest, and therefore isn't qualified for the current decreased taxable base.
  • Reimbursable employer
: Mark this checkbox if you're a reimbursable employer. This option is only available if the total rate is zero.
