Colorado FLI calculations

The Colorado Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) is effective January 1, 2023. Colorado refers to the program as FAMLI.

General information about the PFML premium

  • The 2023 Colorado FLI premium is 0.45% of the employee's gross wages.
  • The 2023 Colorado ERFLI employer rate when not exempt is 0.45%, for a total rate of 0.9%.
  • Employers with 10 or more employees are responsible for paying the 0.45% employer share.
  • Employers with fewer than 10 employees aren't required to pay the employer share.

How the application calculates the PFML premium

By default, the application withholds the full combined Paid Family Medical Leave contribution, split between the employee and employer.
  • If a client wants to pay all of the employee portion of the premium, mark the
Employer pays full employee PFML share
checkbox in the Payroll Taxes tab of the Clients screen.
  • If the client is an employer with fewer than 10 employees and choose not to pay the employer portion of the contribution, you can mark the
    Wage exempt
checkbox for the employer portion of the contribution in the Payroll Taxes tab of the Clients screen.

Registration

My FAMLI+ Employer is the online employer services portal Colorado businesses, third-party administrators (TPAs), and local government employers will use to manage their FAMLI accounts. Most Colorado businesses will need to register in My FAMLI+ Employer before reporting wages and making payments.
After a client has been registered, they'll receive a Colorado FAMLI ID from the Department of Labor and Employment. This account ID can be entered into the
FAMLI ID
field in the
Additional Information
window from the Payroll Taxes tab on the Clients screen.
  • The FAMLI ID is a 10 digit number formatted as ########## and allows leading zeroes.
  • The FAMLI ID, if entered, will be included in the CO-PFML Worksheet and electronic file as well as the addenda record of the ACH credit payment file.

Colorado Paid Family and Medical Leave Worksheet

We've provided Form CO-PFML Worksheet (reconciliation type worksheet), which can be used as a source for manual data entry into My FAMLI+ Employer, or to create an electronic file that can be transmitted to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment using the Process Electronic Forms screen.
