Massachusetts withholding deposit schedules for Forms M-941, M-941D, and M-941W

You can select any of the following deposit schedules for Massachusetts clients using the
Agent
tab of the
Vendors
screen or the
Payroll Taxes
tab of the
Clients
screen for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts vendor.
  • Annually
  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
  • Quarterly-monthly
However, the deposit schedule that you select dictates the forms that you can submit and whether or not you can include a payment to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts vendor.

Annually, Monthly, and Quarterly deposit schedules

Form M-941 (a reconciliation form that can include a payment)
The methods available to you in the Payment Preferences section will be based on Massachusetts state requirements and the filing method you have selected for submitting Form M-941.
Filing methods available (in the Setup > clients screen)
Payment method available (in the Setup > Vendors screen) for the filing method
Internet
The payment method can be Check, Direct Deposit, or payment.
Internet with payment
The payment will be included with the form. The payment method can be any method except Internet because you won’t be using the vendor to pay the liability.  When you submit the M-941, the payment will be included.
Paper
The payment method can be Check, Direct Deposit, or payment.

Quarterly-monthly deposit schedule

Form M-941D (reconciliation form)
Filing methods available for the form (in the Setup > Clients screen)
Payment methods available for the liability (in the Setup > Vendors screen) for the filing method
Internet
Because this reconciliation form is sent via Internet and contains no payment, the
payment preferences do not matter
in Vendors screen.  You won't be using this form to pay any liability.
Form M-941W (payment voucher)
Filing methods available for the form (in the Setup > Clients screen)
Payment methods available for the liability (in the Setup > Vendors screen)
None. This is a voucher, so there is NO filing method to select.
This form (used exclusively for the Quarterly-monthly depositors) can be submitted when using the following payment methods for the liability.
  • Check.
    When you select this payment method, you will be prompted to print a payment form.
  • Direct Deposit.
    After the liability check is printed, the payment will be available in the
    Process Direct Deposit
    screen. You'll need to set up direct deposit information in the
    Tax Agents
    screen for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts agent.
  • Internet.
    After the liability check is printed, a payment file (which you can submit to the state) is created in the
    Process Internet/Magnetic Files
    screen.
  • Payment.
    After the liability check is printed, the liability is recorded as a Payment type transaction in the
    Enter Transactions
    screen.
