What are Stop Words?

Stop Words are are words that occur so frequently in documents that they can't be used to search in Checkpoint Classic, unless in certain circumstances.

How Checkpoint Classic deals with Stop Words

  • Stop Words are at the beginning of a phrase: if you search for
    "after school,"
    Checkpoint Classic will include the word "
    after
    " in the search even though it's a stop word.
  • Stop Words in the middle of phrases: they will act as placeholders, so if you search for “
    payable on demand,
    ” Checkpoint will also give results for “payable upon demand” and “payable without demand”.
  • To search for a full phrase that includes stop words: enter a pound sign (#) before each stop word. For example, "
