Add a journal entry

Use the Journal Entries tab to add a journal entry.
You'll need a user account that has been granted permission to Add Journal Entries. Before you can add a journal entry, there will also need to be a Client, an Engagement, and some amounts in the Trial Balance.
  1. On the Engagement dashboard, select the engagement to view it.
    note
    If the engagement is not on your
    Engagement dashboard
    , use
    Open engagements
    to add it.
  2. Select the
    Journal Entries
    tab on the navigation pane.
  3. Select Add a journal entry

    tip
    If the Journal Entry fields are not displayed after you select
    Add
    , use the window controls to change the view.

  4. Choose a
    Type
    for your
    Journal Entry
    .
    • Non-consolidated engagements: Adjusting, Reclassifying, Federal Tax, State Tax, Other, Other 2, Other 3 and Proposed.
    • Consolidated engagements: Eliminating, Reclassifying, Federal Tax, State Tax, Other, Other 2, Other 3 and Proposed.
  5. Select the
    Difference Type
    , if needed.
  6. If you choose to enter a workpaper reference you can also select
    Attachment
    to add a reference used by another existing workpaper.
    • Exclude
    • Include
    • Reverse
    • Zero balances
  7. Enter the
    Account
    ,
    Description
    ,
    Debit
    , and
    Credit
    .
    tip
    When you select the cell in the Account column, select Search for accounts icon
    Search
    to open the
    Assign Account
    screen, select an account, then
    Save
    to add it to the grid. You can also add new accounts on this screen.
    A new row will be added to the Journal Entry grid when you use Enter or Tab in the Credit cell.
  8. You can right-click anywhere in a row of the Journal Entry grid to select
    Add Row
    or
    Delete Row
    .
  9. When you've finished, select
    Save
    .
The Journal Entries grid on the
Journal Entries
tab and the Adjusting JE column of the Trial Balance tab are updated with your saved entries.
note
You can enter journal entries that are out of balance. If a journal entry is out of balance, this is indicated on the
Trial Balance
tab.
