Set up a template

We recommend setting up a template to help make your work easier when setting up new clients.
Follow these steps to set up a template and specify the settings you want to use for most or all of your new clients.
  1. Select
    Setup
    , then
    System Configuration
    .
  2. Select the
    Template
    tab.
    note
If a client is open, Fixed Assets CS prompts you to close the client before setting up any template items.
  3. Select
    Setup
    , then
    Associations
, and define the associations. You can also set up the Association Wizard at this time.
    • Groups
: A group identifies a collection of assets. They're normally defined to correspond to the client's general ledger asset accounts. Maximum per client = 65,000.
    • Locations
: A location identifies the physical site of an asset. Maximum per client = 65,000.
    • Types
: A property type identifies assets subject to a property tax, such as automobiles, furniture & fixtures, and intangible assets. Certain states, such as Ohio and Michigan, use asset types. Maximum per client = 65,000.
    • Divisions
: A division identifies a business activity for a client with multiple business activities within 1 depreciable group. For example, Division 1 and Division 2 can designate 2 businesses reported on Form 1120, Page 1. Maximum per client = 250.
    • Serial #
: Identifies the serial number for individual assets. Maximum per client = 65,000.
    • Custom associations
: Identifies a collection of assets based on a user-defined asset characteristic, or identifies individual characteristics of an asset. Maximum per client = 65,000 per custom association.
    note
You can't set up the Oil & Gas association in the template. The Oil & Gas association is available only for 1040, 1120C, 1120S, 1065, and 1041 clients and can only be set up on a client-by-client basis.
  4. Select
    Setup
    , then
    Treatments
and turn on or set up the treatments.
  5. Select
    Setup
    , then
    Options
and select the settings for the following tabs.
    • Calculation tab
    • Asset List tab
    • Miscellaneous tab
  6. You can create 1 or more print profiles available to all clients. Select
    File
    ,
    Print
    , then
    Profiles
    and create the print profile.
  7. When you're done setting up the template, select
    OK
    to close the
    System Configuration
    window.
The template items will copy to all clients subsequently created in Fixed Assets CS. You can also transfer the template items to existing clients.
tip
If you prefer not to have certain client-specific settings automatically copied to every new client you add in Fixed Assets CS, you can set up a model client. You can then open the model client and select
File
, then
Save As
whenever you want to copy settings from the model client to a new client.
