Windows Installer Coordinator: Please wait while the application is preparing for its first use

Scenario

While installing on a terminal server, you might see a Windows Installer Coordinator dialog that states "Please wait while the application is preparing for the first use". The window may get stuck or appear repeatedly. This is a known issue that is caused by incompatibility between the Embedded MSI technology and the Windows Installer Coordinator.

Solution

To disable this policy, follow the steps below:
  1. Go to the Windows Start button and search for
    gpedit.msc
    .
  2. Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Remote Desktop Services, Remote Desktop Session Host, then Application Compatibility.
  3. Select
    Turn off Windows Installer RDS Compatibility
    .
  4. Select
    Edit
    from the dropdown menu.
  5. Select
    Enable
    .
  6. Select
    OK
