Error: Unable to start print job

Scenario

You may get the following error message when printing a document that has an image.
Error message
Unable to start print job.

Solution

Try the following:
  • If the image is jpeg format, save the image as a bitmap image.
  • In UltraTax CS, select
    Help
    ,
    Repair
    ,
    Misc
    , then mark the
    Render printed images in documents without hardware acceleration
    checkbox.
  • Check and make sure you've selected the correct printer for the print job.
  • If printing a tax return, select
    File
    ,
    Print Returns
    , then
    Printer
    and make sure there's a printer selected.
  • If printing mailing labels, select
    Printer
    after choosing the mailing labels to be printed and make sure there's a printer selected.
  • If you only use 1 printer, select
    Microsoft Document Image Writer
    or
    UltraTax CS Spool
    as the printer, select
    OK
    , and then change the printer back to your standard printer. Try printing again.
  • If you're printing to a network printer, sometimes installing a 2nd instance of the driver locally and then pointing to the IP address of your network printer will resolve this issue. The same would hold true with a local printer—installing a 2nd instance of the driver and using the new instance may resolve.
