Enter signature authorization in Organizer

  1. Go to
    Organizer
    ,
    E-file
    ,
    Signature Authorization
    .
  2. Select either practitioner PIN (Form 8879) or self-select PIN.
  3. Indicate who entered the PIN: ERO (electronic return originator) or taxpayer/spouse.
    note
    If the taxpayer/spouse entered the PIN, Form 8879 won't print.
  4. For the practitioner PIN:
    1. You can select the option to generate random PINs for taxpayer and spouse.
    2. You can select the option to generate a random ERO PIN.
    3. You can select to print the taxpayer and spouse PINs on Form 1040, Page 2 signature lines.
    4. Enter the 5-digit PIN for the taxpayer and/or spouse (if filing jointly).
    5. Enter the ERO PIN.
    6. Enter the date the PINs were entered into Organizer.
    7. If you select taxpayer and select self-select PIN as the PIN type, Form 8879 won't print.
  5. For the self-select PIN:
    1. For taxpayer and/or spouse, enter prior year AGI, prior year PIN or EFP (e-file PIN), and e-file PIN provided by the IRS.
      note
      The prior year AGI comes from the original tax return submitted prior to any adjustments and/or amendments. If a return wasn't filed in the prior year, enter NONE for prior year AGI. If the AGI was zero, enter NONE; if negative, enter a negative number.
    2. If applicable, select the option to indicate the taxpayer is under 16 but isn't a first-time filer (or if the spouse is under 16, but filed in a prior year).
