Texas extension Form 05-164 print requirements

Form 05-164 is the only extension form you’ll use to request the 1st or 2nd extension for the Texas Franchise Tax. To print the extension and filing instructions for Texas Form 05-164, you’ll need to activate the state, enable the extension, enter payment information and e-file information.

Enable the extension

  1. In
    Organizer
    , go to
    States
    then
    State E-file
    .
  2. Select
    Enable/Create extensions
    .
  3. In the row for Texas, select the checkbox for column
    C
    ,
    Enable
    .
  4. In the
    States
    folder, select
    Common State
    .
  5. Select the
    Estimates and Extensions
    folder, then
    Extension Detail
    .
  6. In the
    Texas
    section, select the appropriate extension.
  7. In
    Common State
    folder, select
    General Information
    , then
    Basic Return Information
    .
  8. Go to the
    Return Information
    tab.
  9. On the row for
    Texas
    , select the checkbox for column
    O
    ,
    Return on Extension
    .

Enter payment information

  1. In the
    States
    folder, select
    Texas
    then
    General Information
    .
  2. In
    Payment of Tax during the preceding tax year (Mandatory
    ) section, choose an option other than
    Blank
    . The 1st extension only generates if the amount is less than $10,000, and the 2nd generates if the amount is $10,000 or more.
  3. In the
    States
    folder, select
    Common State
    .
  4. Select
    General Information
    , then
    Bank Information
    .
  5. On the
    Direct Debit
    tab, find the row for
    Texas Extension
    and select column
    B
    ,
    Authorization to Debit Funds
    .

Enter e-file and signature information

  1. In the
    States
    folder, select
    Texas
    .
  2. Select
    E-file – Extension
    , then
    Additional Information
    .
  3. Enter a
    Webfile number
    , which starts with “XT” and is followed by 6 digits. Contact state helpdesk at 1-800-442-3453 if no valid Webfile number exists.
  4. Enter
    Total revenue on latest return.
    . If total revenue for the prior year was $0, enter NONE.
  5. Go to the
    Common State
    folder, then the
    General Information
    folder.
  6. Select
    Basic Return Information
    .
  7. On the
    Signature Information
    tab, enter a
    Signature Date
    in column K for the Texas row.
  8. In the
    General Information
    folder, select the
    Paid Preparer Information
    screen.
  9. Go to the
    Preparer Information
    tab and make sure the preparer name, email, and phone number are entered as these are required. Complete any additional information as necessary.
  10. Clear any severe diagnostics for Texas.
  11. Do a full recompute and generate print.

Check for print suppression

If forms and/or filing instructions aren’t printing after completing these steps, make sure the forms and/or filing instructions aren’t suppressed.

Common State
Print Suppression
and make sure Texas isn’t selected in either the
State Forms
or
Extensions
column.
For filing instructions go to
Organizer
Letters and Filing Instructions
General Options
. In the
Select Which Letters You Wish to Print (Mandatory)
section, make sure an option is selected that isn’t suppressing the filing instructions.
