About Group rights

When creating an administrator, it's crucial to grant them the maximum rights available. This ensures they can appropriately manage and assign rights to any new groups or users they create or edit. Limiting an administrator's rights can hinder their ability to grant necessary permissions. Below, we break down each right that can be assigned through a group.

Add returns

This right allows users to create new returns. They can do this by selecting
Returns > Create Return
or using the
Save As
option from the Returns menu after displaying a list of returns. The
Import
option in the Returns Processing menu also requires this right if the import file doesn’t specify an existing locator number for a tax return. Note that this right doesn’t restrict users from creating returns when using the Separate Returns Joint Data (SRJD) or Tax Equalization (TEQ) features in the tax application.

Assign returns

With this right, users can assign various tasks to returns. After selecting
Returns > Find Return
and displaying the returns, users can use the
Assign Users/Dates
menu option. Firms with GoTracker® will have this menu option available.

Delete returns

Users with this right can deactivate returns by selecting
Returns > View Return Information
and clicking the
Deactivate Return
button. Without this right, users can’t re-roll a tax return since the rollover process won’t overwrite existing data unless they have the
Rollover without Delete Rights
right. Users with the deactivation right will be prompted to either
Bypass
or
Overwrite
tax return data during the rollover process.

Set passwords

Users with this right can set or change passwords for tax returns. Administrators with this right don’t need to know the existing return password to change it.

Rollover without delete rights

This right is for users who shouldn’t delete returns but need to re-roll them. Users with either the
Deactivate Return
right or the
Rollover Without Delete Rights
right will be prompted to
Bypass
or
Overwrite
tax return data during the rollover process.

Bypass return passwords for batch print

Users in a group with this right can download returns created through the batch print process without entering the locator password.

Mask certain personal identifiable information

To protect taxpayer privacy, certain personal information like Social Security Numbers (SSNs) will be masked on tax returns assigned to groups with this option enabled.
