Correct validation errors with GoTo

Creating the e-file also identifies and reports any validation errors that exist, but the validation error message can be difficult to understand, and finding where to correct the error might not be clear. To help correct validation errors, a validation file can be created that includes GoTo functionality.
Follow these steps to create a validation file with GoTo.
  1. In
    Organizer
    , select
    Federal E-file
    ,
    Error Checking
    , then
    Generate Validation File
    .
  2. Creating the XML file with the GoTo functionality for states is performed separately in the
    State E-file
    ,
    Validation
    spreadsheet.
  3. After the validation file is created, select
    View
    ,
    Diagnostics
    , then
    E-file Validation Errors
    .
  4. Selecting a validation error should take you to the source of the error, such as Organizer or a tax form field. If the error is contained in a tax form field, select the link to the applicable organizer field to update.
  5. Repeat these steps until all validation errors are eliminated.
  6. Next, select
    Create E-file
    to create the final XML file that can be transmitted.
  7. GoTo functionality isn't available for XML files created using
    Create E-file
    . However, if an XML file is created using these steps then the GoTo functionality should be re-established.
