Application updates: key release highlights

Business challenge
How ONESOURCE Sales and Use Tax (OSU) can help
Product updates in this release
Customers are unable to see when a return is due or what are the submission modes available.
OSU helps users know the due date for returns and determines the submission types applicable for each return.
We enhanced the Return register to display the 'Due Day' and 'Submission Mode' fields, enabling you to view the due date of a return once it is registered under an entity and configure the appropriate submission mode for a return based on the applicable submission modes.
Customers are unable to rectify the errors based on the messages that are provided on the screens.
We improved the messages along with an actionable guidance to solve errors.
We updated all messages so that they explain the error with more clarity and the message also includes remediation steps for the users to solve the error with minimal effort.
Customers are unable to upload the returns from the file that was modified to address the errors in it.
You can upload the returns from the XML file and use the data in it for filing the returns.
We resolved an issue where the product was unable to override the original file when uploading returns from a modified XML file. Now, we ensure that the uploaded file with the latest data takes precedence for filing the returns.
Customers are unable to decide what to do with the entities in the import file that already exist in the system.
OSU provides import options for the user to decide how the source file for the entities import must be processed.
Two import options are introduced – Skip for import, Update existing entities. Skip will be the default option. If changed by the user, then the entities existing in the system will be updated with the data in the file.

UI/UX Enhancements

Error messages
displayed on the Tax Due Reports, Logs, Entity and Entity Configuration screens are improved for the user to better understand the corrective steps need to be taken to rectify the error.
  • Key Benefits
The messages will provide more clarity to the users and the additional info in the messages will provide an actionable guidance for the user to diagnose and solve the errors.
We enhanced
Entity Import
with additional import options so that if the import file has entities that already exist in the Workarea, then you can make informed decisions on whether to skip importing them or override existing entities.
We modified the
Import Process Dashboard
by adding new metrics
Skipped
and
Updated
, which enables the dashboard to provide a more detailed summary of how entities in the source file are imported into the Compliance portal, based on the import option you select.
  • Key Benefits
    • Provide more flexibility to you while importing the entities from a file.
    • Dashboard metrics modified to provide more granular metrics based on the import options you choose.
We refined
page size options
so that same page size is maintained on both journals and ledgers with the default page size of 200 records.
  • Key Benefits
Consistent user experience with pagination on both journals and ledgers.

Entity configuration updates

We added
Due Day
and
Submission Modes
to every tax return registered in the
Entity Configuration
. These fields are available for import and export as well, users can export the return register and see the Due Day and Submission Modes value in the exported excel sheet. Any changes made to the Submission Mode value will be captured in the history log.
Key Benefits:
Helps the users in knowing the due date for returns and what all the submission types applicable for each return.

E-filing updates

You can export the returns as an XML file, modify that file to rectify any errors in the returns, and then upload the latest returns from the modified file by overriding the original e-file, through the
E-File Process Dashboard
.
Key Benefits:
Improves the user's ease of resolving the errors in returns before filing them.
