Blank pages print after custom invoices, statements, or reports

Scenario

If the width of your custom invoice, statement, or report is greater than the width of the page, a blank page will print after the invoice, statement, or report.

Cause

To determine if the total document width exceeds the width of the paper, take the following steps.
  1. Select
    Setup
    , then
    Custom Formats
    .
  2. Double-click the custom format to open it in the layout editor.
  3. Select the preview button in the toolbar.
  4. If a red line shows on the right side of the preview, the width of the document is greater than the width of the page.

Solutions

The sum of the left margin, right margin, and width of the document can't exceed 7.5 inches for portrait orientation or 11 inches for landscape orientation. Therefore, either the margins or the width of the document will need to be adjusted.

Solution 1: Adjust the width of the document

  1. Select
    Setup
    ,
    Custom Formats
and double-click the format to go to the layout editor.
  2. Select
    File
    , then
    Page Setup
    .
  3. Make a note of the left and right margin. The standard margins are 0.50.
  4. Select
    OK
    .
  5. Use the ruler across the top of the page to determine the width of the document. The width should be less than 7.5 inches for portrait orientation or less than 11 inches for landscape orientation.
  6. To adjust the width, move your mouse over the right edge of the layout. The cursor should change to a double-headed arrow.
  7. Once the mouse is a double-headed arrow, select the edge of the document and hold the mouse down to drag the edge to the left until the width is less than 7.5 inches for portrait or 11 inches for landscape.
  8. Preview document to verify the red line is no longer visible. If the red line is still visible, repeat these steps and make the width smaller.

Solution 2: Adjust the margins of the page

  1. Select
    Setup
    ,
    Custom Formats
and double-click the format to go to the layout editor.
  2. Use the ruler across the top of the page to determine the width of the document. Make a note of that number.
  3. Select
    File
    , then
    Page Setup
    .
  4. Adjust the left and right margins so the total of [left margin] + [right margin] + [the width of the layout from Step 2] doesn’t exceed 7.5 inches for a portrait orientation, or 11 inches for a landscape orientation.
  5. Select
    OK
    .
  6. Preview the document to verify the red line is no longer visible. If the red line is still visible, repeat these steps and make the left and right margins smaller.
