Work-in-Process (WIP) missing from billing screen

When doing billing, there may be valid reasons why WIP transactions won't display in the billing screen. The following are some reasons for this situation.
  1. The WIP was billed and/or adjusted on a different invoice.
    • If a WIP entry has been relieved by a different billing transaction, it won't display in the billing screen because only unbilled WIP displays.
    • To check for this, go to
      Actions
      ,
      Billing
      , then
      Review
tab. Review the existing posted and unposted invoices to verify if that WIP transaction was billed or adjusted.
    • You can select the + sign next to each item to expand the view to show the individual WIP transactions billed by that invoice.
  2. The WIP transaction is dated in a future period.
In Practice CS, all transactions dated beyond the end of the current period are not seen by the application until you advance to that period.
  3. Date cut off based on invoice date.
    • In Practice CS, the date of the invoice is specified on the
      Summary
tab on the detail billing screen.
    • This is not only the date that the invoice will post to, but is also a cutoff date.
    • No WIP transactions dated beyond this date will appear in the billing screen.
  4. Date cut off based on User Preferences option.
    • In addition to the date filtering described in the previous item, you can also specify a WIP cutoff date that is before the invoice date.
    • For example, you want the invoice to post to the end of period date (for example, 3/31) but you only want WIP to be billed that is dated 3/29 or prior. The date on the
      Summary
tab of the detail billing screen will control what date the invoice is posted to (that is, 3/31). To further limit the WIP that appears in the billing screen to a prior date (that is, 3/29) you must enter this date in the Default WIP Through field in
      Setup
      ,
      User Preferences
      ,
      Billing
      tab.
  5. The Activity used on the WIP transaction is nonbillable.
You can only bill WIP entered for activities that have a class code of billable.
  6. WIP posting feature turned on.
In Practice CS, you can optionally specify that WIP transactions must be posted before they’ll appear on reports and be available for billing. If this feature is enabled in
    Setup
    ,
    Firm
    ,
    Preferences
tab, then you must post the transactions in the
    Review
    tab of
    Time & Expense Entry
    .
