F1040NR-SNEC-032 e-file error

If there is no Form 1042-S with 'IncomeTypeCd' having the value "01" in the return and Schedule NEC (Form 1040-NR), 'OtherInterestAmt' in 'IncomeTaxRtOthUndTrtyRuleGrp' or 'IncomeTaxRtOth2UndTrtyRuleGrp' has a non-zero value, then the corresponding 'TaxRt' must be greater than 30%.
note
The value represents the Schedule NEC rate less than 30%.
You'll get this error if the return doesn't have a Form 1042-S with a 1 in Box 1 and the rate on Schedule NEC lines 1 or 2, column d, is 30% or less. This is an IRS e-file limitation.

Solution

  1. Go to the 1042-S screen in the Nonresident Alien folder.
  2. Make sure the correct code is entered in Box 1, Income Code.
  3. Make sure the correct amount is entered in Box 4, NRA Other tax rate.
  4. Go to the NRA screen in the Nonresident Alien folder.
  5. Make sure the amount entered in the
    Other tax rate
    is correct.
If the return doesn't have a Form 1042-S with a
1
in Box 1, and the rate on Schedule NEC lines 1 or 2, column d is 30% or less, you'll need to file the return on paper.
If you made corrections to the data entry so the return passes the limitation, recreate and retransmit the return.
