Database Validation Error: /Return/ReturnData/IRS1040/IndividualReturnFilingStatusCd: For the filing status selected in the return, the Primary SSN in the Return Header must not be the same as Spouse SSN on another return with filing status Married filing separately. (value #########, rule IND-511)
You'll get this error if the IRS e-File database lists the taxpayer's SSN as already having been used as the spouse's SSN on a married filing separate return.

Solution

  1. Go to the General folder.
  2. Select the 1040 screen.
  3. Make sure the taxpayer's SSN number is correct.
  4. If the SSN is incorrect, correct it. Then re-create and retransmit the e-file.
  5. If the SSN is correct, then you'll need to file the return on paper with Form 8948. You can contact the IRS at 866.255.0654 for more information.
