IND-941 e-file error

The Spouse SSN in the return has been locked because Social Security Administration records indicate the number belongs to a deceased individual. (value #########, rule IND-941)
You'll get this error when the SSN for the spouse belongs to a deceased individual.

Solution

  1. Go to the 1040 screen in the General folder.
  2. Check the
    SSN
    entered for the spouse.
  3. Correct any typos or incorrect information, then recreate and retransmit the return.
  4. If correct, you'll need to file the return on paper with Form 8948.
