R0000-503-02 e-file error

Spouse SSN and Spouse Name Control in the return must match the e-File database. (value #########, rule R0000-503-02)
note
The value represents the Social Security number of the person causing the rejection.
The IRS e-file database includes a name control and Social Security number for each filer. This rejection means the information sent in the e-file doesn't match what the IRS has in the database. This can happen if you enter the wrong name or SSN into UltraTax CS. Otherwise, there are a few possible causes that you may need to work out with the IRS or Social Security administration.

Solution

  1. Go to the General folder.
  2. Select the 1040 screen.
  3. Make sure the
    SSN
    ,
    First name
    , and
    Last name
fields are correct for the spouse.
  4. Correct any typos or wrong information. Then re-create and retransmit the e-file.
  5. If the name and SSN are already correct:
    • If the taxpayer has multiple last names, refer to the Individual Name Control section of Publication 4164. You may need to enter their name differently to correct this rejection.
    • You can also contact the IRS e-help desk at 866.255.0654 to obtain the correct name control. Once you have that, go to the ELF screen in the Electronic Filing folder. Enter the name control in the
      Spouse name Control (Force)
field. Then re-create and retransmit the return.
    • If forcing the name control doesn't correct the issue, ask the taxpayer to contact the Social Security administration (SSA) at 800.772.1213 to verify their last name and SSN. It can take the SSA up to 10 days to notify the IRS after they’ve updated their files. Afterward, you can resubmit the electronic return.
