R0000-507-01 e-file error

'DependentSSN' in 'DependentDetail' on the return was used as a Dependent SSN on a previously filed tax return for the same tax period. (value #########, rule R0000-507-01)
note
The value represents the Social Security number of the dependent that is causing the rejection.
You'll get this error if the dependent Social Security number you entered in the return was entered on another return this year. This can happen because of incorrect data entry, or if someone else claimed the dependent.

Solution

  1. Make note of the value at the end of the error message. If there's more than 1 dependent on the return, it will help you find the dependent causing the issue.
  2. Go to the General folder.
  3. Select the 1040 screen.
  4. Open the
    Dependent Information
    statement.
  5. Check the
    SSN
field for the value mentioned in the rejection. Check for typos or incorrect information for the dependent.
  6. Fix any incorrect information it. Then re-create and retransmit the return.
  7. If the data is correct, you'll need to file the return on paper with Form 8948. Mail the return and attach all necessary documents (such as Form 8332, Release of Claim to Exemption for Child of Divorced or Separated Parents, copy of Divorce or Separation agreement, or other supporting documentation).
