Data for a dependent of another taxpayer

This topic gives instructions for recording information about a taxpayer who's a dependent of another taxpayer.
To claim a taxpayer as a dependent on another taxpayer's return, go to the
1040
window and enter 1 of the following codes:
  • 1 Diagnostic to confirm dependent status for taxpayers 19 and over.
If this is a proforma field, UltraTax CS generates a message to verify the status. The message is a reminder to verify that a taxpayer between 19 and 23 is a full-time student.
  • 2 No diagnostic to confirm dependent status for taxpayer 19 and older.
This code stops the confirmation message from being reported if the taxpayer always qualifies as a dependent of another.
  • 3 Dependent of another this year but not next year; do not proforma.
The Tax Projection Worksheet uses this code to project next year's tax without the dependent status. Enter
    3
if you don't want the proforma to apply to the following year.
