Taxpayers who don't pay all of their income tax by the original return due date are subject to late interest and penalty. Cities do not waive interest and failure to pay penalty on balance due if taxpayer files an extension request and/or pays in a certain percentage of the tax due by the original due date of the return.
If the federal return is extended then the city return automatically is extended.

GEN
screen.
For CCA extensions, use the statement on the Ohio Cities

For RITA extensions, use the statement on the Ohio Cities RTAExt screen to allocate the payments within RITA municipalities. Prepare the return after filing an extension payment
When preparing an extended return, ensure you have the following information from the extension. The amount paid with extension is reported on the city return.
Amount actually paid with extension
Akron - Form IR, line 12
CCA - Form 120-16-IR, line 9, column 7 for employment tax and line 14, column 19 for residence tax
Cincinnati - individual return line 9(b)
Columbus - region Form IR-25, Part B, line 2
Generic - individual return, line 9
RITA - Form 37 Section B, line 13
Toledo - individual return line 10(a)
Enter the amount on the appropriate extension input screen in the
Extension payment actually made; reportable on main return
field. Note that UltraTax CS populates this field when the extension was created if UltraTax CS calculated the extension payment amount or if the extension payment amount was forced. Change the data entry for this amount if the taxpayer paid some other amount.
note
If an extension was filed via some means other than UltraTax CS, enter the actual amount paid with extension in the
Force
field. By doing so, this will automatically complete data entry in other fields, including fields for extended due date and amount actually paid with extension.
Indicate extension has been filed: For Cincinnati, indicate whether or not a federal extension Form 4868 has been filed on the OJCINExt screen. If filed, attach a copy to the Cincinnati return.
Date return filed: Enter the
Date return filed
on the appropriate Ohio Cities extension input screen to print a date on filing instructions other than the calculated date. UltraTax CS does not calculate late interest or penalties on the unpaid balance due for Ohio Cities.
Attach federal or state extension: UltraTax CS automatically attaches a copy of the city extension the city return when you print the city extension via File > Print Extensions. If the extension request was filed via federal Form 4868 instead of the city return, attach a copy of the federal extension.
