Health Benefit Plan Tax Credit

Health insurance purchased through the marketplace may qualify for a Health Benefit Plan Tax credit. Use the UTCr-2 screen in the Utah Credits folder to enter health care information to calculate the Health Benefit Plan Credit Worksheet. If there was an excess premium tax credit repayment or net premium tax credit in the prior year, those amounts will transfer to the next year. In the
Exclude amounts
field, enter the sum of the following:
  • Amounts claimed as a federal credit under IRC 35
  • Amounts deducted as a self-employment expense (IRC 162)
  • Amounts deducted as a medical expense (IRC 213)
  • Amounts excluded from federal AGI (i.e HSA, FLEX, Cafeteria, etc., IRC 106 or 125)
  • Any type of supplemental health insurance premiums, (31-A-1-301(76)), including Medicare supplemental plans
  • Stand alone Dental or Vision insurance premiums, (31-A-1-301(76))
  • Amounts paid for a stand-alone plan for a specified disease or illness
  • Amounts paid for life, accident, dismemberment, disability, income replacement, or long-term care insurance premiums, (31-A-1-301(76)
  • Any insurance type listed in Utah Code 31-A-1-301(78)(b)
