Attach PDF broker statements to electronic files

Follow these steps to attach a PDF substitute broker statement to an electronic file.
  1. Scan the substitute broker statement for Form 1099-B and save the copy to a location on your computer or computer network.
  2. Rename the scanned statement to
    Form 8949 Exception to reporting
    followed by the broker's name.
  3. Open the client's return in UltraTax CS and select
    Edit
    , then
    Electronic Filing Attachments
    .
  4. Select
    Add
    .
  5. Select
    Federal
    from the dropdown in the
    Product
    field.
  6. Select
    Tax Return
    in the
    Return
    field.
  7. Select
    Form 8949 Exception to reporting <enter name>
      in the
    Attachment title
    dropdown and change
    <enter name>
    to the broker's name.
  8. Select
    File
    , then
    Browse
    and go to the location of the substitute statement you want to attach.
  9. If you're licensed for FileCabinet CS and have it installed, you can also mark the
    Save a copy of selected file in FileCabinet CS
    checkbox to store the selected file as a FileCabinet CS document. If you scanned the document into FileCabinet CS, select
    FileCabinet CS
    then
    Select
    to select the document. The document will attach as an embedded PDF stored in FileCabinet CS.
  10. Select
    OK
    to go back to the
    Electronic Filing Attachment
    window. Repeat steps 4 through 9 to add more attachments.
  11. Select
    View Attachment
    to view the PDF file you're including in the electronic file.
  12. Select
    OK
    when you're done.
UltraTax CS creates an Electronic Filing - PDF Attachment Report that lists the PDF files you attached to the electronic file for each return, including the title of the PDF files and the attachment source of the files.
