  • C Corporation
  • S Corporation
  • Consolidated / combined
  • Composite (part of main return)
  • Pass-through Entity (part of main return)
  • Withholding (part of main return)

Returns not supported for electronic filing

You can't electronically file the following return types:
  • Amended
  • QSSS
  • Estimates
  • Extensions
  • UBIT (M4NP)
  • Annual reports

Signature requirements for electronic filing

Minnesota doesn't have a specific signature form for corporate returns. Instead, Minnesota considers the act of completing and filing electronically an authorized signature.

Resubmit returns

If you need to make a change to a return that you've already electronically filed, and Minnesota has already accepted it, you'll need to amend and paper file the return.
If Minnesota rejects the return, you may make the changes, correct the rejection, and resubmit. If the return can be retransmitted electronically, it needs to be filed within 10 days of the due date. There is no grace period for resubmissions.

Attachments

Minnesota requires a valid federal attachment in the electronic file. Therefore, if the federal return isn't supported for electronic filing by the IRS, you can't e-file the state return.
Minnesota allows PDF attachments in the electronic file and doesn't have specific naming conventions for the files you attach. The following forms automatically generate as a PDF and attach to the electronic file:
  • Required statements
  • Elections
  • General footnote

Payment methods

Minnesota allows electronic funds withdrawal (direct debit), electronic funds transfer (EFT), credit card, or check for balance due returns. You'll need to pay electronically this year if last year’s total estimated franchise tax payments exceeded $10,000. Partial payments aren't allowed.
Bank information and a requested payment date are required when you're requesting EFW. Minnesota will use the bank information you enter on the federal Bank screen. If you have different bank information for Minnesota, use the
MNBank
screen in the General folder.
Credit card payments need to be made through the Official Payments Corporation. To instruct the client to pay by credit card, mark the
Credit card
checkbox in the
MNELF
screen. For more information on credit card payments, contact the Minnesota Department of Revenue at Efile.support@state.mn.us.
